Student Assistance Programs

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a comprehensive
and integrated joint school-community program providing assistance for students and
families.
Buddy Program (K-3)
The Buddy Program is a linking of third grade and
kindergarten students and is encouraged each year. Such activity provides a regular
positive interaction in a variety of activities such as visiting the library, joint art
projects and others. The building of self-esteem and a positive school transition are
goals of such a program.
Counseling Services
Counseling Services are provided by the School Counselor
for students with learning, behavior, social and/or emotional problems in school. Students
may be referred by parents, teachers, administrators or the student themselves for
short-term individual or group counseling.
District Policy on Drugs, Alcohol and
Tobacco
Because the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
adversely affects a student's ability to achieve academic success, is physically and
emotionally harmful, and has serious social and legal consequences, the Governing Board
has adopted policies to keep district schools free of these substances. Instructional
programs will be provided which help students obtain and use current and accurate
information, develop and maintain a positive self-concept, and use appropriate social and
personal skills to resist involvement with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Outreach
Outreach is a Las Lomitas community effort designed to
promote participation in school activities by the district's students and their families.
Toward this end Outreach has, among other things, arranged tutors for students, provided
translation services and transportation, provided scholarships for after-school
sports, and assisted with lunch programs. We like to say that Outreach is more an attitude than a program. Our
goal is to make all of the members of the school family feel welcome and included. How can
you help? Please contact the PTA. If your child
or family needs assistance through Outreach, please contact the school
principals. All requests for outreach assistance are kept confidential.
The Outreach logo is found on most school handouts.
Parent Education Programs
Parent Education Programs are held at the school sites
during the school year. These programs are designed to meet the current parents' needs for
keeping up to date with positive interventions that they can utilize with their children
to promote healthy family interactions.
Parent Networking Meetings
Parent Networking Meetings are an opportunity for La
Entrada parents to come together to discuss some of the common joys and challenges of
parenting same-age children. Often the School Psychologist and/or School Counselor are
invited to attend to lend support and share their perspective.
SOS
Service Our School (S.O.S) is a La Entrada program that
encourages students to volunteer their time in a variety of ways to help the school
community. SOS hours may be earned by tutoring, peer helping, leadership, committee work,
helping a teacher, etc. and must occur before or after school or at lunch. Students
earning SOS hours are recognized for their contributions in a variety of ways throughout
the year .
SST
The Student Study Team (SST) at La Entrada is a process
that may be initiated by any staff member, parent, or student who has academic, social,
behavioral, and/or emotional concern for any student. It is a process of reviewing
individual student problems and brainstorming helping strategies. Please see the Counselor
for further information.
Tutoring
Tutoring is available by adults or by peers to provide
students with additional assistance in their schoolwork. The counselor also maintains a
list of high school students available to tutor your child.
